German Immigration
In 1709 about 3,000 Germans crossed the Atlantic to New York because of new chances at life in America. In 1745, there were an estimated 45,000 Germans living in Pennsylvania alone. After the year 1800, Germans still poured into the US, but for different reasons than the earlier generations. One big reason was in Germany small family bussinesses were going bankrupt because of large factories with machines. In America there were not many of each business so there were more chances for success.
